I've spoken at conferences where:

1. My registration was covered by the sponsoring organization
2. I was paid an honorarium
3. I could attend the entire conference if my scheduled allowed

And regarding a previous post, with all due respect, I think that it's a
stretch to say the STC conferences are training grounds for people who want
to be professional speakers. Most of the veteran presenters are very good
speakers and know how to convey information to audiences, and most, I would
wager, got over their stage fright long before standing up in front of an
STC audience.

In all the conference material that's sent to prospective presenters,
there's nothing that explains the STC policy for not covering registration,
not paying travel-related expenses of speaker/presenters, not providing an
honorarium, and not reimbursing speakers/presenters for handouts.
