I had a 2 similar problems that both turned out to be the graphics cards.

One had been over clocked and when there was a lot happening on screen it
couldn't cope with processing so much information.
It would first freeze the screen then turn it off.
I turned it down a bit but in the end it still went pop.

The other card had a spurious problem that was cured by reinstalling the
graphics drivers.
Why not try a reinstall or upgrade to the latest version for your card.
After all it's fast and free.

Mark Emson.
