to be replaced by something "nifty" or "snazzy' and "neat"?<<

Well, first of all, the discussion on "what we should call ourselves" has
been going on for many years and isn't a sudden impulsive issue.

Second, many technical writers possess skills, knowledge, and experience
that lies outside the "technical writer" box otherwise known as a job
description in HR. Your title and the content of the job description are
pigeon-holed in a salary/promotion matrix from which it is often difficult
to extricate yourself if you don't campaign to have your job description and
job title changed to reflect the current "typical" offering of core
competencies, skills, tools, and knowledge.

The people who fight for more equitable salaries and job titles should be
thanked because were it not for them, we'd be paid based on using scissors
and glue for "cut and paste."
