When they asked, I told my employer my contract billing rates and then let
them make me an offer. I didn't tell them much more about my situation, but
I was billing quite high (for me) at the time and it felt like the right
thing to do. They didn't really seem to know much about how much a
contractor can earn and this was in my advantage. (Mind you, I BEGGED them
to take me as a contractor and went full time only because I didn't want to
miss the opportunity. I'm sorta sorry, but that's another story about why
contracting is better for me, personally.)

I would not have hesitated to ask for more than I was offered if it had been
too low. I think that often there is room for negotiation if you don't blink
first, Subsequent hires here have proven this to be true.

My .02 over the initial offer...

Pam
