Thanks to all who responded to my query
regarding BIG Law Firms and BIG pro
services firms in general.

The answers ranged from the cautionary
to the horrific. Tech writers do not produce
billable hours and therefore are (typically)
treated as creatures inhabiting the lower
levels of the (human) food chain. After TechWrl info
and other input, I decided not to go to the interview.

SO, here is the description under
"Qualifications." This position, which
lists few hard and fast specific reqs, paid
70k a year! AH! BUT, just read the last bullet!
(As if the long commute into NYC wasn't enough!)

+ A warm, friendly and patient personality as well as
the ability to relate well to all types of personalities.
+ Dedication to detail and follow-through is essential.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills are
+ In-depth knowledge of computer programs and
hardware used by the firm is mandatory.
+ High school diploma is necessary. College degree is
advantageous, but not required.
+ Prior experience in technical writing or software
development, networking, middleware, or development
tools is a plus.
+ Prior law firm experience is beneficial.
+ Work with minimal supervision and self-direction is important.
+ Able to work evenings and weekends, when required.
