I have no idea whether Adobe will trash PageMaker or
not, but the rumors about them trashing FrameMaker are
100% false. As for which tool, you said that the
course is for doc design and layout? If so, InDesign,
PageMaker, or Quark Xpress will do. I favor Quark as
it's most widely used by publishing professionals (at
least the ones I know, and I know a lot).

FrameMaker may be a bit over the top for a college
course, especially if the class is early Monday
morning - a good hangover will kick Frame's butt any
day. ;) If you're looking to teach doc design, go with
a more fluid tool - one that will let you "be
artistic". After all, college may be the last chance
some of these kids will get to "be artistic".

Now, please excuse me while I wash my mouth out with
soap.
