That's true about music and foreign languages. I've been playing guitar since 1963 (I've been in bands that have opened for Aerosmith and Jimi Hendrix--like 1968, and most recently [1998], played in a band that opened for Martina McBride, Travis Tritt, and Blackhawk for you country fans). Self-taught on bluegrass banjo and some keyboards. I've done a bit of studio work, too.

I was originally a foreign language major (6 years of Spanish, 4 years of French, 2 years of Russian) before I switched majors.

I'm recording a jazz fusion/progressive rock instrumental album now, with hopes of releasing it next year and touring with my own band...

...which is ONE reason I don't use my real name on this list. That's all my employer needs to catch wind of, that I'm trying to hit it big in the music industry...
