Some industries pay significantly less than others also, especially the
defense industry. I only moved 100 miles the last time I relocated, but it
was for a significant increase in pay in moving from the defense industry to
semiconductor.

In some areas, yes. In others, no. Some regions still feel it perfectly
acceptable to pay tech writers between $28k and $34k a year. :-/
