I used to find it challenging to explain my profession, when I was doing
software documentation for a back-office system nobody had heard of.

THEN I got a job writing sales proposals for a software developer, with a
title of "proposal coordinator" on my business card.

After a few abortive attempts to explain that, I one day jokingly said,
"You know, when two young people love each other, and the guy just can't
work up the nerve to propose, that's when I step in and coordinate the
whole thing."

They thought I was serious.

So I've given up. Now I just say I "do computer stuff."
