Subject:Comprehensive portfolio or a few writing samples? From:Ellen Kelly <EllenK -at- mentergy -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 21 Jun 2001 16:03:38 -0400
Hello:
I was wondering how many of you out there have a comprehensive portfolio
that you bring to interviews? I usually select a few samples depending on
the job, and then put that together nicely to bring to the interview.
I was thinking of pulling something more comprehensive together - a
collection that shows all the different types of things that I have done and
puts them in context with a brief sentence describing the particular
project. Then, this would be something I would use for all my interviews.
I do wonder if this is overkill, though. I know when I interview writers I
just want to see a couple of hard-copy writing samples that show the person
can write. Beyond that it is the personality and skill-level that I assess
through talking to the person.
What have others done in this area, and for you interviewing managers out
there what do you like to see in samples?
-Ellen
