Linda Harrison wonders: <<what's the best way to import an Excel file into a
Word doc? it's not to keep the Excel file active, but to capture it as a
snapshot. i can't imagine Word has the capability to import an active Excel
file and keep
the Excel file active.>>

"Best" depends on how you're planning to use the file. If you'll only be
using it on your own computer, or within a group of people who all have the
full Office suite and access to the same network directories, it's easy to
embed the spreadsheet: simply open Word's Insert menu, select "Object", then
browse your way to the Excel file. The problem with this approach is that it
travels poorly between computers (in my limited experience, the links have a
nasty tendency to break), and it greatly complicates moving the Word file
into another application (e.g., into HTML, or into PageMaker). If you don't
mind breaking the link with the spreadsheet, simply export the desired range
of cells as a "tab delimited ASCII" file, then import that into Word
(Insert-->File). Once it's in Word, select the imported text, open the Table
menu, and select "Convert to table". Voila!
