Hi Linda,

Try this
(In Word 97)
Insert-->Object-->Create from file (pick the existing file) OR 
Insert-->Object-->Create New (select the Object type from the list)

Word does have the option of keeping the worksheet as an active one and,
also as snapshot, if you dont double click the content.

Hope menu options are in the same place in Word 2000 :-).
