Greetings, list members, I am really enjoying your discussions and
insights. Keep it coming!

Maybe someone who knows something about the Windy/Big Shouldered City could
help me out on this one:

I am currently experiencing some turbulence in my work here, and I am
thinking of doing freelance technical writing and editing work in Chicago
soon. How do I arrive at a basic fee to charge by the hour? I know that
the STC Chicago site says I should contact several consulting firms who
hire technical writers, and ask them. Do you have any suggestions about
what firms I could contact?

Also, I am interested in temp agencies in the Chicago area who place tech
writers/editors on temporary--or even permanent--hire. Do you know of any?

Much thanks, gang (as Al Capone used to say).

George
