Unfortunately, the time to ask for things is when you get hired. Then, if
they can't happen immediately, they should be written into a contract. Talk
is not respected in court.

Once you take a job, you will get inflation raises at most even when the
people coming in the door are getting 20% increases. You won't score points
being reasonable or unreasonable.

You might want to take the time you are now spending on anticipatory anxiety
and put together a plan for increasing your value in the job market, and
then work that plan regardless of how the salary issue goes. By this I mean,
what tools and skills can you learn on your current job. Since they treat
you like a professional, they expect you to grow. Grow first and if the
salary thing doesn't work out you will be in a better position to reap
higher wages. I don't mean write your resume and be prepared to bail. Your
worth can go up even when your salary does not.

David
