Actually, in a work for hire situation, the copyright lies in the hands of
your employer. Just ask Tony Isabella, the creator of the DC Comics
character Black Lightning, or Steve Gerber, creator of Marvel's Howard the
Duck. It's a legal precedent that has been tested several times in that
industry.
