Choose the one you want.

pixels = dpi x inches

inches = pixels / dpi

dpi = pixels / inches

The way to work it out is to see which value you lack as follows:

I want 3.5 inches at 120dpi so I lack pixels,

pixels = dpi x inches = 3.5 x 120 = 420

The number of colours is independent of the dpi (dots per inch).
