Win Day asked:

>Let's say your kid (OK, he's 18 and much bigger than I am!) says he WANTS
to get into technical writing and knowledge management. What course of
undergraduate study would you recommend, and why?

What worked for me is working in industry and getting my degree in
engineering while working. While this takes longer to achieve (and the
price may be too high for some in time, effort, and low pay), it gave me the
technical skills necessary to understand any industry.

Now I find myself as a senior tech writer in my first contract where I don't
have to get annoyed at the use of the word "insure"!
