The automotive industry is GPS ALOT for roadside assistance. Fishing
boats use it to locate their position so if they are in a storm, they
can be rescued. You can wear a sensor that helps rescue personel
locate you if you are snow skiing and you get caught in an avalanche.

All of this is possible only through GPS. Are these unethical uses or
is this an unethical technology? Personally, I find them rather
noble.

My son's high school geography class worked with the Peel Regional Police force to take GPS readings on every street sign, every tree, every corner in the neighbourhood around his school. The information was used by Emergency Response Teams to triangulate 911 calls from cell phones, as well as in a variety of crime-fighting activities.

I worked with the teacher to help develop the Word template that the police and student teams used to file the reports.

They got to use the neatest GPS toys! They tried out several models (and had to write reports on them).
