I am sending this question for a colleague in deadline fever...

He is using the Word Document Map to help his readers navigate. He is using
Word98 on the Macintosh if that matters. The Document Map seems to
automatically include Heading1-9 PLUS any paragraphs with an outline level.
The problem is, Word "thinks" all his figure captions (styled as "Caption")
should have outline levels and be included in the Document Map. But he
doesn't want them in.

Word online help, Microsoft support pages, and some MacWord Web sites he has
tried have no help on this.

I suggested he restyle "Caption" as "Heading9" and then remove that from the
Document Map. This would probably work but take some futzing.

He has already searched & replaced all paragraph symbols styled as "Caption"
with the same thing (a paragraph marker styled "Caption") which does remove
those paragraphs from the Document Map on-the-fly. But the next time he
opens the file, they're baaaaack.

His questions are:

Is there a way to permanently suppress assigning outline levels to
paragraphs of a certain style, like "Caption"?

Is there a way to control what is included in the Document Map (beyond
Heading1-9)?

Thank you for any bright ideas.
