In Phoenix Arizona, rates are lower than $35 now. One recruiter told me $30
would be the top I could get. $35-$40 was high end though *before* the
slump. I have seen a few jobs in the $30-$35 range though, in spite of what
the recruiter told me. Cost of living is a little bit lower here,
particularly for rent, not necessarily for other costs. The rates have
never been very high here in AZ, partly because we don't have a lot of
high-tech industry. A few major chip manufacturers and that is that.
