That's a maybe. I think most of the pharma work has more to do with regulatory compliance than with chemistry, or even biochemistry, which is more to the point.

Gaining a real understanding of the ins and outs of FDA compliance will get you a _good_ job at any pharma, biotech, or medical device company, and you don't necessarily need course completion certificates to demonstrate this understanding. The FDA itself provides virtually everything you need right on their Web site. Some of it is a hard slog and will give you brain cramps from exercising cells you didn't know you have, but once you get it, you get it. And once you get it, you can express that fact in your résumé and you can talk your way through interviews.

The FDA also runs periodic regional workshops explaining compliance practices to the industry. I don't know whether members of the public can just sign up to attend, but that might be another option for Beth, Justin, and others similarly situated.
