I realize that this may not be helpful in the current situation, but I find
that one of the best ways to "integrate" with Engineering is to sit in
close proximity to them. They really like having me around so that they can
come over and ask me for stuff, bring me reviews, etc. It's also somehow
psychologically easier for me to go over and ask to see a product. They tend
to be contemptuous of Tech Services (who have much more technical experience
than I do) because TS is on the FIRST floor, and rarely come upstairs to see
the product.

Additionally, 2nd floor is Engineering (I am part of Engineering--my title
is Senior Member, Technical Team) whereas Marketing and the bigwigs have
their offices/cubicles on the first floor. Since Engineering and Marketing
tend to be at loggerheads, just being on the second floor (and part of
Engineering) makes me an ally--if I was on the first floor, I am sure I
would be perceived as a member of marketing, and my task would be that much
harder.

Nora
