In my cover sheet, I tell them that the material has not gone to edit yet,
but will once they review it for accuracy. I also state that they are
welcome to mark any grammatical or typographic errors, but that they should
concentrate on the technical accuracy.

This usually limits the amount of copy edits I get back (as does my flawless
writing ;-) ). It lets the technical reviewers know that someone else will
be looking at the document before it goes out, so they feel more comfortable
ignoring the typos. And, it grants permission to the compulsive copy editors
in the group, but reminds them to focus on the content.
