A noted scientific authority? Look. Think back to school. Were the people
who went on to become graphic artists choosing their electives in the
physics department? The opinion of an author on graphic arts about whether a
study was conducted scientifically or not carries no weight in my judgment.

Thinking back to school (in Scotland) it's both possible and indeed likely
that someone who goes on to specialise in the graphic arts will ALSO have
taken at least one science qualification at school.... and in my school (I
took biology, chemistry, and maths to Higher level, and physics at O-grade,
along with a CSE in art, O-level drama, and English to Higher level) that
would certainly have included a basic grounding in the scientific method. My
choice of subjects at school was more varied than most, but not unique - not
even particularly unusual. I went to a comprehensive - a school that admits
all local children.

In England/Wales, OTOH, where scholarly traditions are different, children
do tend to focus on either "Art" or "Science" from a relatively early age. I
think this is a fundamental mistake, but then I would, wouldn't I?

Apologies for the long additional sig: it is added automatically and outwith
