"I don't do Windows", or at least not much
so someone please correct me if I'm off here,
but my understanding is that "modal" applies
to a window that grabs focus so you cannot
do anything else until you click OK or Cancel
in that window.

A "please wait..." window might or might not
be modal in that sense.
