In PageMaker, put the text cursor into a story. File > Export > Text ...

Select RTF from the Save As file types. Leave the "Export Tags" box unchecked (in the situation you describe).

Save the RTF file and open it in Word. All your styles will be there.

Note that you have to export each story separately and choose RTF each time (the Export Document dialog always reverts to the default of Text-only).
