Dublin-based recruitment company NewMediaCV publishes an annual salary
survey for jobs in the IT/e-business sectors. The full survey features
comparative salaries for UK and US employers and can be read as PDF here:
http://www.newmediacv.com/publications/NMCVSalaryReportDec2001.pdf

The punchline for technical writers can be read here:
http://www.newmediacv.com/publications/salarysummaryreport.asp

Note that the recently-cancelled Irish pounds convert to EURuros at a rate
of IR£1 = EUR1.27. Note also the survey's definition of employee "levels".

Larger Irish companies will offer pension and health insurance plan
contributions, though these may be less than the "full dental and medical"
offered by US employers. There's no guarantee you'll get that from a
startup, though EC regulations require most if not all types of company to
set up an employee pension plan.

These treat the issue of getting paid; getting hired in the first place is
of course the bigger issue. Peter Hirons provided a sanguine and pretty
accurate assessment of the Irish job market for tech writers, IMO. I'd be a
little more bullish about it than he, but I'm basing my assessment on the
Dublin area, where there is a regular if small supply of tech writing jobs.

If you can get your hands on the full Friday edition of the Irish Times --
often the business supplements are filleted out abroad -- check Section 2,
it carries a lot of recruitment ads. Also the Irish Society of Technical
Communicators has a discussion list similar to TECHWHR-L which (very
occasionally) throws up job listings:
