ANNOUNCE: Localization Project Management seminars in Boston, MA

LOCALIZATION PROJECT MANAGEMENT Seminar
Boston Marriott - Newton--Newton, MA
17 June 2002. Cost: $795
The ability of project managers on both the vendor and the publisher
side to manage projects well is of crucial importance for the
quality, the cost, and the timely delivery of localization projects.
Many localization project managers, however never had any formal
project management training. This seminar will give new and
experienced managers a solid grounding in project management theory
and practice. It will use examples from the localization field and
show the benefits of replacing a highly individualized process with
one that is standard, repeatable, predictable and consistent. The
seminar will have an interactive format that will allow for
participants' questions.

ADVANCED LOCALIZATION PROJECT MANAGEMENT Seminar

Boston Marriott - Newton--Newton, MA
18 June 2002. Cost: $795
In this seminar, the presenter will examine real-life case studies
that demonstrate some of the most challenging problems that
localization project managers have to confront. The case studies will
be preceded by a presentation of some guidelines for participants to
keep in mind while they consider the situations at hand. Case studies
will include issues such as: Simultaneous release, the unresponsive
client that doesn't make decisions, the localization department that
has little or no voice in its corporate environment, scope churn,
software developers who don't see the big localization picture,
project teams: the misfit, the chronic under-budgeted product with
the impossible schedule, the micromanaging client (Roles and
responsibilities of client vs. supplier), and handling mega-projects.

Group discounts available.

Seminars leader Karen Combe, President of Combe Consulting, LLC.

STORY: Dan and the STC Conference

Dan took a deep breath. How he loved the smell of the STC trade show
floor.

As he made his way toward the TechSmith booth # 410, he wondered if his
feelings were akin to music-lovers who follow bands across the country -
he too relished seeing TechSmith at different venues, surveying the
distinctive stage setups and watching the various demos.

When he arrived at the booth, the parallels unfolded before him . . . The
conference attendees jostled to get a better view of the demonstrations,
as would an audience at a concert. They silently mouthed the new usage
tips like they would lyrics to a new song. They all subscribed to the
newsletter to get their monthly treat of news, feature articles and
release information. And Dan knew that they all - himself included -
wanted a chance to chat up the intelligent, personable and good-looking
staff as if they were band members that could provide them with the
latest inside info.

As he ambled away, clutching his TechSmith paraphernalia to his chest, he
thought of the parallels he'd seen but then realized - SnagIt made his
heart sing more sweetly than any song ever had.
