It's not for lack of available information on the topic. This list alone
has explored the topic exhaustively, and dozens of books have been
published on the subject.

People who don't try to develop negotiation skills are doing themselves a
major disservice. A few moments of unpleasantness (nobody said negotiating
was FUN) can result in months or years of fairly-compensated work, being
done by a satisfied worker. Everybody wins.
