Despite my orations about simplicity in tech writing, I have one
particular manual that I remember with fondness.

I just wish I could remember what the product was.

I do know that it was for some kind of Mac software that I was using
about 15 years ago. At that time, because of Apple's marketing, many
of the manuals were chatty.

I was reading a section when I suddenly sensed something odd about a
paragraph. I went back and read it again. Just to be sure, I read it
aloud. It was a well-constructed Petrarchan sonnet disguised as a
paragraph. What made it delightful was that it was well written
technically while conforming to the metre and rhyme scheme.

About 15 pages later I found another one in Shakesperean form.

I've often wondered about the motivation behind it. Was it a cry for
help, or just a whimsical exercise.

But as I said, that's all I remember about the product.
