Sorry if this is late, but I'm behind on reading the
digests!

The one thing I haven't seen discussed is to determine
what printer driver instance (.ppd) is being used for
your Distiller printer?

If the "downstairs" printer is a different brand or
model from the one you normally use, it could be that
you used *your* PostScript printer .ppd for Distiller.
This limits the .pdf file in many ways--for example,
if you have a black & white laser and use its printer
description for Distiller, you can't make color .pdf
files in Acrobat.

This is, of course, changed by redefining your Acrobat
Distiller printer instance. The Acrobat printer
description file is on the Acrobat CD--or you could
presumably download it from Adobe.

This problem crops up with some regularity in cases
where an IT department sets things up. It is often
messed up when a print-serving machine is replaced and
the new one set up by IT.

Meanwhile, if you've tried the other suggestions and
nothing works, this may be the problem!

I should also add that if you have Acrobat 5.0 or
Reader 5.0 installed on the machines that support your
printers, there are known bugs that are fixed in
5.0.5. All machines with 5.0, in fact, should be
upgraded via the patch.

Hope this helps!

David
