I do multimedia work everyday and Macromedia Authorware is my tool of choice. Granted 99% of the multimedia stuff I do is training so Authorware was a natural fit. As of version 6, with one button publishing (which has no button BTW) it's as easy to put Authorware content as it is to put Flash on the web. And Authorware, IMO, if far more extensible and easier to use than Flash. I'm not looking to start a tool debate, just stating my opinions.

Anyway, yes I'm a technical writer and yes I do lots and lots of multimedia work. I've been particularly involved with just-in-time (JIT) training lately. For the unfamilliar JIT training is small snippets of training that guide the user through a task when and where they need it. For example I've recently created a piece that walks users through the process of synchronizing Novell and NT passwords in win98. It's just little app on the intranet that pops open the passwords property card and walks the user through synching the passwords.

...But how much are technical writers involved in producing multimedia-based
user documents? I don't see many signs of it in job ads.
