You know, there *is* a possible up side to this ...

In my previous gig, the product manager said to me "You're the only guy that
can attend just about any meeting he wants to." We were in the process of
defining a software product, and I was the only doc guy. He was correct - I
could walk into just about any meeting going on, and either contribute, or
take away something that I needed to know.

I was not always invited to a meeting, but if it sounded like a good one
(doors were almost always open ...) I would wander in and listen for a
while. If it wasn't good, I'd wander out. If it was, I'd stay.

I didn't get invited to them all, but I never got excluded either.

Maybe that's the crux of this whole thing ... feeling excluded by not being
invited. I hate to say it, but work meetings are not parties! You don't
always have to have an invitation to attend. If you feel you need to be
there, go in. I doubt seriously that you'd be asked to leave.

Getting advance notice, of course, is a different matter. But, if you
inculcate all the developers and designers and managers correctly, they'll
start to ask "Shouldn't the writer be here?" and send someone to get you.

My 2¢,
