An option my previous company took was to add a hyperlink to the PDF
manual. The link would open the PDF file in a new window to the page (I
believe) where the appropriate information was discussed, providing a
context-sensitivity of sorts. It's probably not the best option, but I
thought I'd mention it as a solution.

Unfortunately, the application's protected by login ID and password - even
if I could give you a URL, it wouldn't help.
