Actually, my mind did change, but I think it was more because of experience
than anyone's presentation.

When I first started in the field, I believed that so long as I could write,
then I'd be set. It took me almost a year to land my first tech writing job,
and the rejection reason was almost always the same: I didn't have the
subject knowledge. After that first job went bust because of the sagging
economy and I entered the market again, it took me over a year to find
another job - and I heard the same reasons all over again.

I realized that there are only two ways to land a job: either know someone
who can get you in the door, or know your subject.

I didn't communicate it to the list per se, but I was very vocal in advising
people to get this knowledge.
