I think it is OK to have only one subheading. Sometimes you have
information that is part of a section, but deserves heading-level
recognition (hmm, that sounds so ... Shmucky ;-D).

For example:
1. Introducing Application A
1.1 Application A Real-Life Usage Example
2. Configuring Application A
And so forth.
