Perhaps it's something to do with your system? I run Windows 2000 at work and home and it doesn't chew up nearly those resources.

The free option chewed up 16 MB of RAM just to leave
open and ready, and when chatting CPU usage went up by
20%. I uninstalled it right away, with lots of manual
cleanup. :(
