Except that you're overlooking the fact that almost all the great artists have gone to great lengths to perfect their talents. As the old joke says, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice!"

Also, I don't think it's denigrating tech-writing to say that it demands competent literacy skills, not artistry. There are far more people in the world who could make acceptable tech-writers than there are people who could be great artists.
