The brand new fresh Sun Style Guide _Read Me First! A Style Guide for the Computer Industry_ Second Edition does not use bolding for GUI component names. Is specifically says:

"Do not use special text formatting such as an alternative font or bold type for GUI element names such as menu names, menu options, or field names." (pg 222)

In their examples, buttons are not bolded either,
