When I "plug in" I choose music that doesn't interfere with my thinking; a lot of new age stuff - Enya, Yanni (my kids, husband and sister sneer and call him "Yawnnie"), Mike Oldfield, classical....lots of instrumental stuff - though I've been known to hum along with the music before - just loud enough to bug the you-know-what out of those unfortunate enough to be around me! - without realizing it.

If I'm working at home, I can crank up the stereo and pretty well ignore it, especially if I'm up to my eyeballs in a project. Then the world could end on other side of my chair and I wouldn't notice.

For those of you that listen to music on your headphones: how do you do it while writing? When I was doing dummy-HTML-copy/paste work I could listen to music all day and it didn't interfere. Now that I'm writing I can't do that. I find myself typing the song's lyrics in the manual!
