>From what I understand, an entire database table, or some indices are stored in memory to enhance performance. When data is requested, the data is retrieved from the table in memory. This is faster than hitting the database to retrieve data.
You may wish to inquire more about what really is cashed in memory, the whole table, the indices, portions of the table. etc. Another question to ask is how is the memory released or deallocated and when.
