Basically, in the USA, a hotel will give you an exhibition hall and other
conference space/services if the conference organiser can get people to
book into their rooms. In the UK, so the conference fees are normally
higher because most people commute from home and there aren't the hotel
bookings to subsidise them. So if everyone states-side stayed at home and
commuted to the conference it might not make a great difference.
