A success story, of sorts, and thanks

I hope this message will gladden the hearts of at least some readers.
I've been a subscriber to techwr-l for over three years now, and an
intermittent poster from other addresses. I'm posting in relative
anonymity from a new address today not so much for the confidentiality
reasons that have been under discussion recently as out of (at least some)
consideration for various employers, and some modicum of
self-preservation.

Last Friday I landed a dream job, after a certain while spent in what I'll
just call the trenches for now. For those of you not in software
develoment, my apologies. But I'll provide a few details for those of you
who are, with thanks all along the way to everyone whose posts have helped
me to get to this point. (That includes plenty of people who aren't
necessarily in software, too, just in case you were in any doubt . . .)

I'm being brought in as the lead for a brandy spanking new docs
department, for a company that is growing rapidly (but trying to keep
their hiring conservative), developing server-side applications in, shall
we say, the education industry. (Not to be coy, but I'd rather not
provide details until I know everyone is cool with it.) I'll be
responsible for developer docs, so special thanks go to k k and everyone
who replied to the eloquent plea for help with API documentation. And
I'll be the department lead, so special thanks go to everyone who
contributed to the discussion about starting a documentation team.
Couldn't have been more timely!

But the timely discussions were the icing on the cake. The real substance
is everything I've learned from all of you over the years, plus the
knowledge that I have this terrific resource I know I'll need more than
ever starting in about two weeks, when I move to the new job and all its
new responsibilities.

I get fed up with techwr-l from time to time, as I suppose everyone does
-- with the bickering and putdowns and arrogance and all the rest. But I
learn from (almost!) all of it, and I've learned to love my delete key.
This message is to say thank you to everyone, both for the help that's
gotten me here (whether you knew you gave it or not), and for the help
you'll be giving me!

And as always, thanks to Eric and Deb for keeping the thing going.

Jennifer
