I don't think resolution is the issue. PowerPoint is a major offender at
bloating Word docs, and if you simply *imported* them into the doc, I bet
that sucker is HUGE. I recommend you get the original PPT slides, if
possible, and screen-capture them and save them as GIF files. Then, insert
them into the Word doc using "insert picture, from file." Your Word doc
will shrink dramatically, I gare-ron-tee it.

I use Paint Shop Pro for this - its capture function is excellent, and you
can crop and manipulate the graphic to your heart's desire.

If you don't have access to the original PPT's, screen-capture them in the
Word doc, after first zooming them to the largest possible size. Write to
me offlist if you need any more help, or need clarification of this post -
it's late, and my tech-writing license expires each night at 5 PM.
