We're trying to come up with an easy solution for our SMEs to provide us with
upgrade and integration docs, and I'd like to hear about your experiences with
Live Linx ConteX or a similar, perhaps XML-based product. Our situation:

--Our SMEs need to build and track upgrade docs for different flavors of our
software releases, which involves incorporating some 3rd party
patches/enhancements with new software that we've developed, and making sure all
parts play together nicely.
--The content of the upgrade docs tends to be 70% identical from one release to
another, but not always the same 70% for each doc.
--The software and upgrade docs must go through review and testing by QA, so
edits must be easily made to the doc without having to rebuild the "book" from
scratch.
--The SMEs then give us the doc to format and produce, at the last minute, as
.pdfs.

Right now we're using Word for this, and I know our SMEs would like to stick
w/Word (which may rule out AuthorIt). Whatever solution we go with must be easy
to learn and use by systems integrators/programmers/engineers--non-documentation
specialists. And it needs to be inexpensive and handle collaborative authoring.
Suggestions? Experiences? Thank you--
