The next operating system to be released by MS is code named Longhorn. If you
google on "MicroSoft Longhorn Help", you'll find a link to the MS Longhorn Help
Authoring Guide on MS's site:

http://longhorn.msdn.microsoft.com/lhsdk/help/hachelpauthoringguide.aspx

This information provides an indication of what to expect from the upcoming help
system.

One thing to consider is that Longhorn help will run only on Longhorn operating
systems. If you need to continue to support legacy systems, you'll want to consider
developing your help in WinHelp or HTML Help (both of which will continue to be
supported by LH), or at least work with a tool that will allow you to produce various
outputs (which I assume most will). All of the major HAT vendors are keeping
abreast of LH development.

If you have additional questions, you might want to consider joining the yahoogroups
HATT list, which is dedicated to help-related discussions.
