I'm a tool geek. I'm also a geeky tool, but we won't go there. ;-)

I've presented on tools many times. I've gone to many tool
presentations. It's like deja vu all over again - SSDD. Just about
every FrameMaker session you go to covers the beauty and wonder of the
book file and conditional text, oh and now XML. It gets boring after a
while.

So why do I keep going to tools presentations? Well, to be honest,
because the majority of the presenters are now friends of mine! It's
one of the few times we get to toss back a few and chat.

I'm an advocate of joining societies (what an odd turn of phrase) and
such that deal with your industry. This way you get closer to your
market, competition, and customers.

What would I like out of the STC? Good, solid info. You know, SIGs are
fine and dandy. If people want them, let them have them. But let's not
forget the core of our discipline and how important those skills are.
