Seriously, I agree with the scenarios you presented. It's certainly
the case. But because tools make hiring managers drool, should that be
the basis of the focus of a society devoted to technical communication
excellence?

I think there's something to be said about chapter meetings and tools
presentations. Maybe the SIG approach will fix that, where
presentations are aimed at different SIG interests and not just what
draws a common crowd.

That'd be a good thing, provided they pull it off.
