I was nodding my head right up to this point, which is where I have to
part company. While life is certainly not as dreary as David seems to
think it is, believing that everyone who doesn't value documentation
can be "enlightened" is just setting yourself up for disappointment.
There are those whose minds are permanently closed, and times
when you just have to recognize the fact that the mission is unachievable
and decide to move on before someone else makes the decision for
you (I'll be sure and post the method for doing this the moment I
figure it out). Additionally, if my situation affords me the luxury of
picking my assignments, I would much prefer to spend my time making
happy customers of those who come to me because they already value
my contributions than beating my head against the wall trying to be an
evangelist for the profession. I've done that, and it's a lot like going
door-to-door trying to sell vacuum cleaners to people who don't see
anything wrong with living in a dirty house.
