I can think of three reasons:

1. *They*, not we, have wasted countless
hours hashing the thing out. At least if
my attempts to standardize our style fail,
they fail on the cheap.

2. It is freely downloadable in handy chm
format.

3. It seems no worse than any other I've
seen, nor worse, overall, than what we
would likely come up with ourselves.
